Universal Manresa: the city of Sant Ignatius

Places steeped in spirituality

Favourite

Enjoy the city of Manresa on an itinerary that will take you to the cave of Saint Ignatius, the monumental cathedral, the medieval street, Carrer del Balç, and the Interpretation Centre, where you'll be able to visit the Espai Manresa 1522: the city of Ignatius.

ADVANTAGES:

Saint Ignatius of Loyola is the personality who has done the most to bring the city of Manresa to worldwide attention. It was here that he discovered his religious vocation and found the inspiration to write his Spiritual Exercises when he spent a year in the city in 1522.

The Ignatius Trail visits a series of places steeped in anecdotes, legends and symbolism in memory of the founder of the Company of Jesus: the former school, the Col·legi de Sant Ignasi, the chapel, the Capella del Rapte, the well, known as the Pou de la Gallina, and the impressive cave of Saint Ignatius, which was built between the 17th and 18th centuries.

You'll also visit the new Espai Manresa 1522 Interpretation Centre, housed in the former theatre and conservatoire in the plaça Sant Domènec, where you'll travel back to the late 16th century to find out what Manresa was like when Saint Ignatius was living there.
