Girona

Surreal experiences, exceptional witnesses to Greek and Roman civilisations, more than 100 km of ski slopes, enchanted lakes, medieval villages, havens for scuba divers, volcanoes among legendary beech woods, seaside villages and 200 km of beaches and coves that have captivated a plethora of European avant-garde artists await you in the counties of Girona. Make sure you don't miss it!

Do you like the Mediterranean? On the Costa Brava you'll find the essence of the Mediterranean character: dreamlike beaches and coves, fishing villages, such as Calella and Cadaqués; places for scuba diving, such as the Illes Medes; wetlands – the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà – with their magnificent biodiversity; wild, breathtaking coastlines such as Cap de Creus; the archaeological ensemble of Empúries (6th century BC-6th century AD); the gateway to the Iberian Peninsula for the Greek and Roman civilisations; the finest cuisine the Mediterranean diet can offer.

Do you prefer the mountains? In addition to the volcanic area of the Garrotxa with its magnificent beech wood – the Fageda d'en Jordà –, you have kilometres and kilometres of ski slopes. In addition to La Molina, Masella and Vallter 2000, you can visit Vall de Núria, a ski resort with a shrine that has been a place of worship for eight centuries, far away from traffic which can only be reached by the rack railway. In summer, the resorts become centres for leisure and mountain activities, including hiking, climbing, MTB trails and riding, among others.

For lovers of art and culture, Figueres and Girona are simply unmissable. In Figueres, you'll find Salvador Dalí's Teatre-Museu, a temple to surrealism. In addition to the museum, you can also visit the Castell Gala Dalí in Púbol, and the Casa-Museu Salvador Dalí in Portlligat, which make up the Daliesque Triangle. In the city of Girona, you'll find the cathedral, which has the widest Gothic nave in the world, and be able to wander through the Call, one of the world's best-preserved medieval Jewish quarters, or across Eiffel's iron bridge that spans the river Onyar and offers lovely views of the brightly painted 19th-century houses.
