Barcelona International Convention Centre - CCIB

Europe's biggest convention centre in the Parc del Fòrum is one of the places you can visit on the 22@ Innovation Trail.

The Barcelona International Convention Centre, the CCIB, is noted for its state-of-the-art building and cutting-edge architecture.

The building, which is part of Barcelona's architectural heritage, was designed by the architect Josep Lluís Matro and places the emphasis on light. The curved metal façade was designed with the landscape in mind. The sculpture suspended from the ceiling in the lobby is reminiscent of the latticework panels in the Arabian souks. It consists of rows of superimposed texts from the science-fiction novel The Drowned World.

The convention centre hosts all kinds of events, from medical and scientific meetings to official ceremonies. It can hold up to 15,000 people at one time and has 46 open-plan halls set out on four floors and a basement that connects with the Forum building.

The project has received numerous awards as it is one of the most technologically advanced buildings in the world. Not all convention centres are lucky enough to have views of the Mediterranean and this makes it a truly unique, special venue.
