Museu Episcopal de Vic

Vic is one of the most important medieval towns in the history of Catalonia and offers its visitors one of the most comprehensive museums of medieval art. The building opened in 2002 and was designed by the prestigious architects Federico Correa and Alfonso Milà. It stands on the site of the former college of Sant Josep, next to the cathedral.

The wealth and variety of the exhibits make the museum an absolute must, particularly for lovers of Romanesque and Gothic art. Stelae, tombs, baldachins, carvings, murals and altarpieces are displayed alongside other collections that are seldom seen elsewhere, including textiles and clothing (copes and chasubles), glassware (drinking vessels, bottles and jugs), furniture and ceramics.

The museum also runs guided tours for groups and schools as well as an interesting programme of talks and temporary exhibitions. You can make the experience even more enriching by visiting Vic Cathedral where you can admire the murals by the artist Josep Maria Sert, losing yourself in the main square, the Plaça Major, or Mercadal, and discovering the Roman temple built between the 1st and 2nd centuries AD.
