Radio Nacional de España

The Catalan headquarters of Radio Nacional de España (RNE) are located in Barcelona's 22@ technological innovation district. It is one of the places to visit in Barcelona if you're interested in tech tourism, as it is home to innovative and sustainable buildings like this one.

RNE in Catalonia originally consisted of Radio 1, Radio 2 and Radio 3. 1976 saw the launch of Ràdio 4, which broadcasts solely in Catalan to Catalonia and Andorra.

The building was designed by Ravetllat-Ribas Arquitectes and houses the administrative and editorial offices and studios used to broadcast RNE's programmes in Barcelona.

The distinctive rectangular building has five open-plan floors and a basement. A central core houses the offices and studios to make the maximum use of the façade.

The structure of the Radio Nacional de España building consists of interconnecting concrete pillars and slab formwork. The façade comprises a single module that makes the line around the building thicker and includes solar shading systems. It also has a service walkway for cleaning and maintenance that acts as a brise-soleil.

In short, a sustainable building you can see on our Innovation Trail 22@.
