Easter in Barcelona 2025Easter 2025, Popular festivals and traditions
04/18/2025 - 04/21/2025
In Barcelona, the Easter celebrations are very popular and have various traditions. One of the most outstanding is the blessing of palms and palm branches, which takes place on Palm Sunday in commemoration of the welcome that the Jews gave to Jesus when he entered Jerusalem. Also, the so-called Easter monas are given as a gift, an evolution of traditional chocolate eggs, which are an example of the good pastry and bakery skills of the city.
In addition to these traditions, the impressive processions are another attraction of Holy Week in Barcelona. These processions are organized by brotherhoods deeply rooted in the city and take place on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday in emblematic spaces such as the Basilica of Santa Maria del Pi, the Main Parish of Santa Anna, or the church of Sant Jaume. During these processions, the penitents, dressed in tunics and hoods, carry religious floats and walk through the streets of the city in an atmosphere of recollection and solemnity.
