Chris Ware. Drawing is thinking - CCCBBarcelona Art Season, Exhibitions
04/03/2025 - 11/09/2025
The exhibition Chris Ware. Drawing is thinking gives us an in-depth look at the career of one of the greatest innovators in contemporary comics. Curated by Jordi Costa, the exhibition invites the public on a chronological journey through the work of Chris Ware (Omaha, Nebraska, 1967), from his first drawings to his three major works: Jimmy Corrigan, Building Stories and Rusty Brown. The exhibition includes original pieces, animations, objects and sculptures, and focuses on the invention of a unique narrative language.
Throughout his career, Ware has experimented with the visual language and narrative of comics, influenced by classic cartoons, ragtime music and architecture. His work addresses weighty issues like human emotions, racism, consumerism and the effects of politics on everyday life. Ware has stated that drawing is thinking, as he believes that the act of drawing connects directly with thought and memory, allowing us to explore the complexity of human experiences,
The exhibition culminates with a space for collective creation inspired by Building Stories, where visitors can help create a comic book story set in Barcelona.
