Antoni Tàpies: The world's imagination - Museu TàpiesBarcelona Art Season, Exhibitions
02/13/2025 - 01/25/2026
The Museu Tàpies presents Antoni Tàpies. The World's Imagination, an exhibition curated by Imma Prieto and Pablo Allepuz that provides a thematic reading of some pieces from the museum's collection based on the artist's philosophical, political and cultural interests. The exhibition takes his early work as a starting point to reflect on the origin of his aesthetic-political stance and his resistance to the prevailing values.
The exhibition includes documents from the period aimed at contextualizing the artist's work in the antecedents and debates of the time. It sets out to recapture the voice of Tàpies himself on aspects such as academia, primitivism, the body, spectacle and the object, among others. The assembled materials allow us to observe how Tàpies developed his own language in response to the political and cultural tensions of his time, as well as his desire to endow art with transformative power.
The exhibition is an opportunity to review the collection from a fresh perspective and to pose relevant questions based on the artist's thinking.
