The exhibition Francesc d'A. Galí. The Invisible Master at the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya invites visitors to delve into the life of one of the most important Catalan artists of the first half of the 20th century. Francesc d'Assís Galí i Fabra (Barcelona, 1880–1965) was a painter, muralist, poster artist and illustrator, but also a reformer of Catalan pedagogy. He taught a generation of artists such as Joan Miró and Llorens Artigas at his Escola d'Art, and his influence was crucial in shaping the young creators of Noucentisme.
Despite his enormous contribution to art, Galí preferred to remain in the shadows, undervaluing his own work and disregarding his legacy. This exhibition seeks to make visible the one who chose to stay hidden, reclaiming his imprint on the history of Catalan art. His work spans from Modernisme to the avant-garde, and his involvement in the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition was key, especially his monumental mural in the dome of the Palau Nacional.
The exhibition is complemented by Galí: Exile and Evasion at the Exile Museum in La Jonquera, which recounts the tragic chapter of his exile in London following the Spanish Civil War.
