Culture, wellness and accommodation among the vines 02/01/2024
Wine is not only there to be tasted on its own, as part of a winery tour or a restaurant menu. It can be enjoyed in so many different ways, including sensory experiences that are inextricably linked to art, culture and wellness.
The Viquet, a combination ticket to visitor attractions that showcase the culture and history of wine and cava
Viquet is the name of the combination ticket that provides admission to five attractions that tell you about the culture and history of wine and cava in the Penedès. It is the best way to learn about their origins and traditions, which date back more than 3,000 years. With the Viquet you can visit the Centre d'Interpretació de la Malvasia in Sitges, the Cava Centre in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, the Centre d'Interpretació del Jaciment ibèric de la Font de la Canya, the Museu d'Arqueologia de Catalunya-Olèrdola and the VINSEUM Museu de les Cultures del Vi de Catalunya.
A Roman winery in the Maresme
Teià has recovered an archaeological site from Roman times that tells us about the relationship between the town – and others in the Maresme – and vineyards and wine. It is now an important cultural visitor attraction – the Centre Enoturístic i Arqueològic de Vallmora – which features a Roman winery that would have been a well-known wine-making centre in Roman Laietania (1st century BC-5th century AD).
You can visit the remains of the grape pressing rooms, the grape juice tanks and ceramic vats, and see the exhibitions and documentaries that describe the period when the region was at the peak of its wine-making splendour.
Cinema and wine at the Most International Wine Film Festival
The Most (wine juice in Catalan) International Wine Film Festival is a major international event that brings to our region the best feature films, short films and videos about wine-producing, wine and sparkling wine culture. It is held throughout November in two of Catalonia's most important wine-making regions: the Penedès and the Priorat.
Wine and art
The technique of painting with wine is another attractive proposition. It is exactly what it sounds like. The artist produces personalised works for different wineries, painting with their wines, and also organises workshops that show how wine can be used as a different form of expression. She also works with other elements from the vineyards, recycles corks, and creates small works of art, while revealing the terroir, varieties, types of wine and their colours, as well as many more secrets, in an unusual way.
Wellness treatments among the vines
The properties of wine can have great health benefits. That is why there are wineries that also offer therapeutic treatments as part of their wine tourism offering.
At the Cava & Hotel Mastinell, they know that wine and its residues are excellent for the skin. This is why they offer their guests a wide range of wine therapy treatments.
Staying among the vines
Some wineries give you the opportunity to enjoy the spectacular experience of sleeping among the vines. For instance, Vins de Foresta offers the ‘Hut among the Vines' experience, which it describes as “unique” and a “blend of tradition and nature inside a stone hut”. You'll be able to stay in one of the stone huts used by farmers in the Penedès in the 18th century, which have been renovated and adapted to modern standards, and enjoy a special night with a philosophy which the winery describes as "100% sustainable" and "environmentally friendly".
You can also enjoy glamorous camping, or glamping, among the vines on the Heretat Can Llopart estate, which was awarded the Best Innovative Activity prize at the Vinari Wine Tourism Awards. This unique experience gives you the opportunity to camp under the stars in the vineyards. You'll stay in 20m2 tents with all the comforts of a boutique hotel and enjoy a wine tasting and dinner. After a peaceful night's sleep in the middle of nature, you'll wake up to see the sun rise.
