Museu de l'Art Prohibit

The collector and journalist Tatxo Benet devised the Museum of Forbidden Art after buying at the ARCO 2018 art fair a work by the artist Santiago Sierra that was censored shortly after by the same gallery that had sold it to him. Now this interesting museum comes to light at Casa Garriga Nogués in Barcelona and unveils a selection of works that were set aside or suffered censorship, cancellation or attacks of various kinds for social, political, religious, moral or cultural reasons. The exhibition includes more than 200 paintings, sculptures, engravings, photographs, installations and audiovisual works by prestigious national and international artists such as Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, Francisco de Goya, Ai Weiwei, Banksy, Gustav Klimt, Tania Bruguera, Miquel Barceló, Keith Haring and Robert Mapplethorpe, among others.
The Museum of Forbidden Art now offers visitors the opportunity to contemplate them again and admire their ironic, reflexive, biting, liberating, critical and empowered nature. The experience is enhanced by digital tools that invite visitors to delve into these censorship cases.
