07/17/2024 - 04/20/2025
Luis García-Berlanga is undoubtedly one of Spain's most internationally renowned filmmakers. Films such as El Verdugo, La escopeta nacional and París-Tombuctú, among many others, have masterfully depicted the human contradictions and history of Spain. The exhibition Interior Berlanga at the Caixaforum Barcelona offers an approach focused on all aspects of Berlanga in a way that has never been done before. The exhibition takes an intimate look at the artist's many facets: from his films and the international renown he achieved to his relationship with his fears and the historical context in which he lived. We can explore the history of Spain through his films, understand and examine his fears relating to death, the future and women, which were recurring themes in his work, and discover the problems he had with censorship. In short, we enter Berlanga's private universe, which he created based on the unexpected, satire, local customs and caricature. In addition, the exhibition becomes an immersive experience, as you can visit scenes from the filmmaker's life and enjoy a film class led by his son, José Luis García Berlanga. All of this is possible thanks to the cataloguing and digitalization of Berlanga's private archive, which will allow us to see everything for the first time.
