Platinum@BCN
Like many of Barcelona's iconic sustainable buildings, Platinum@BCN is located in the 22@ district. It is a complex comprising three office buildings that has been designed to the highest standards of quality, sustainability and efficiency.
The Platinum@BCN is the first building in the world to have been awarded LEED Platinum certification, with a score of 101 points out of 110. The certification is awarded by the US Green Building Council and provides a globally recognised integrated framework for ecological and sustainable building.
This building has a heating a cooling system that harnesses photovoltaic and geothermal solar energy, bringing energy savings of 44%. It also achieves a 46% reduction in water consumption with low-consumption sanitaryware and by recycling waste water and rainwater. Platinum@BCN is a model of urban sustainability, built with recycled materials. 70% of them are locally sourced and all the timber meets forest certification standards. This has brought a saving of 30% in the cost of materials.
Lastly, the Platinum@BCN building has shown its commitment to the environment and sustainability since the very beginning, as 87% of the waste generated while it was being built was recycled.
