Parc de Recerca Biomèdica de Barcelona (PRBB)

The Parc de Recerca Biomèdica de Barcelona (PRBB) is one of the biggest biomedical research hubs in southern Europe. It brings together scientists who are experts in biomedical research computing, human genetics and evolutionary biology, as well as young students from around the world.

The Parc de Recerca Biomèdica de Barcelona's scientific project brings together a number of institutions and independent centres, all focusing on biomedical research and life sciences. It is stands on the same site as the Mar University Campus and the Hospital del Mar.

The PRBB building was designed by the architects Manuel Brullet and Albert de Pineda. This vast building has a floor space of more than 55,000 m2, and has a complex shape combining an elliptical floor plan with sloping outer walls. It is supported by metal tensors and concrete cores.

The façade, clad in wooden panels, creates a curious interplay of light and shadow. The roof is covered with solar panels. All these architectural elements lend the building its distinctive personality.

The Parc de Recerca Biomèdica de Barcelona is noted for its technological innovation which includes a highly advanced computing and communications infrastructure. With a scientific research centre of this calibre it couldn't be otherwise!

Finally, it is important to mention that the Parc de Recerca Biomèdica de Barcelona is one of the key components of the medical technology cluster in the 22@ district.
