Gran Via trade fair site (Toyo Ito)
The Gran Via trade fair site, designed by the 2013 Pritzker laureate, Toyo Ito, is a masterpiece of contemporary architecture that combines beautiful aesthetics and functionality. Situated between Barcelona and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, the Japanese architect's building has become one of Barcelona's iconic architectural landmarks.
The building is one of the largest and most modern trade fair sites in Europe and is a wonderful example of cutting-edge design that is fully integrated into the environment. The structure, with its gently curving forms, resembles a fluid, organic sculpture that blends harmoniously with the urban landscape and its surroundings.
With an exhibition space of 240,000m2, the building hosts exhibitions and business events that are world leaders in their sectors. It has eight halls, connected by a walkway that ensures smooth visitor flows, equipped with state-of-the-art technology and logistics. The convention centre is located in hall 8. Modular and versatile, it can hold up to 12,000 people.
In addition to its design and functionality, Toyo Ito's trade fair site is committed to sustainability and energy efficiency. He used a combination of eco-friendly materials and innovative technologies to reduce the building's environmental impact. It also has one of the biggest rooftop photovoltaic power plants, consisting of 26,000 solar panels.
