Puig Tower (Rafael Moneo)
The Torre Puig, in Plaça Europa, is an imposing building that stands 109 metres tall. It is the corporate headquarters of the Catalan fragrance and fashion company Puig and one of the few towers designed by the Navarran architect Rafael Moneo, the first Spaniard to win the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1996.
By encasing the building in a glass spiral, Moneo creates a coherent unit instead of layers of superimposed horizontal floors. The architecture of the Torre Puig is characterised by well-defined geometry and formal purity that references the value Puig has always given to the packaging of its fragrances.
Inside the building, the work spaces have been arranged around a central core and enjoy panoramic views of Barcelona's urban landscape in every direction. The glass spiral that envelops the building provides the interiors with an attractive visual filter, while improving insulation.
