Tauró dels 100€ (100€ Note Shark) mural
The big fish eats the small one. A declaration of principles that shines through this 25-metre-plus mural in Barcelona's Carmel neighbourhood. The original was created by the Italian artist, who goes by the pseudonym Blu, in 2009, but he had to redo it following its removal a few years later.
The first incarnation of Blu's spectacular shark was made up of 100 € notes: a clear allusion to the financial sharks on Wall Street.
Blu's first mural was painted over in 2021 as part of building work to reinforce the supporting wall of the church of Mare de Déu del Carmel. The following year, the artist was contacted again to recreate his mural on the same site. This time, he added a second, more aggressive shark that is trying to swallow the smaller one. The newcomer is, in turn, about to be gobbled up by a giant orca that is chasing it.
