Mural in the gardens of Sant Pau del Camp
Art as a collective project where artists and a local school have joined forces to raise young people's awareness about the future of the planet. A collaborative process in which recycling plays a central role.
In 2021, the Valencian illustrator and mural artist, Deih, took part in four workshops with pupils from the Escola Collaso i Gil in the Raval neighbourhood. It provided the perfect excuse to give an already-existing mural in the gardens of Sant Pau del Camp a second lease of life. The site was once occupied by the Can Ricart factory and is sandwiched between a Romanesque church and Avinguda Paral·lel, which still draws on the legacy of its theatrical past.
The result is a depiction of a futuristic world in a markedly cyberpunk style. A warning shot about what will happen in the future if we ignore how fragile the earth is when subjected to constant attacks from its inhabitants.
This initiative calls for a more sustainable world and seeks to regenerate a part of the city that has lost the colour and sparkle of its past, when it was a theatrical and nightlife hotspot. The neighbouring Teatre Arnau is also involved in the project. The walls are the subject of pictorial interventions and, in this case, send out a warning about the loss of our heritage.
