The Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera presents Art in Stone, an exhibition dedicated to the influence of stone on modern sculpture. During the first third of the 20th century, sculptors such as Hans Arp, Louise Bourgeois, Eduardo Chillida, Naum Gabo, Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore, Isamu Noguchi and Jorge Oteiza opted for direct carving in stone, avoiding intermediaries and preliminary models. This new attitude of modernity inspired abstract works that are in profound dialogue with the architecture of the Casa Milà. In addition, the exhibition shows how the pioneers of modern sculpture influenced the following generation, with artists such as Stephen Cox, Luciano Fabro, Barry Flanagan, Cristina Iglesias, Anish Kapoor, Ettore Spalletti and Alison Wilding, highlighting stone as a source of inspiration for new conceptual ways of working.
