Barcelona Balconies mural
A giant puzzle that invites the viewer to name the people living in the building just a few metres away from the Sagrada Família.
This 450 m2 meticulously executed trompe l'oeil mural, which creates the visual illusion of a balcony, was unveiled just a few months before the 1992 Olympic Games. Its creators, the art collective, Cité de la Création, pay tribute to great figures associated with Barcelona. There are twenty-six of them, including Christopher Columbus, Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, Antoni Gaudí, Pau Casals, Antonio Machín and Mercè Rodoreda. They are all depicted with an object or element that helps us identify the profession or craft at which they excelled.
Curiously enough, you can spot some of the artists who produced the work in the window of the bookshop that is part of the mural.
