Còmic (Comic Strip) mural

The best wrapper for the head office of a comics publisher in the Poblenou neighbourhood. A giant cartoon on the front of a building where the Valencian artist Daniel Torres depicts scenes from the everyday running of a creative enterprise alongside the daily routine of the local community.

Barcelona has a long-standing relationship with design and illustration. This tradition attracted members of the group of cartoonists, known as the Nova Escola de València, including its leading lights, Torres and Javier Mariscal, who remained in the city. They used clean, well-defined lines, as well as pure colours with little of the shading and blends of colours that were the trademarks of other cartoonists.

Torres made his mark as a cartoonist with underground comics for adults, including El Víbora and Cairo. In 2011, he received this mural commission from Norma comics. It features a character carrying a big letter N: an allusion to the company's name. This giant cartoon brightens up the front of the publisher's headquarters in Poblenou: a Barcelona neighbourhood that was at the forefront of Catalonia's industrial revolution.
